6 Types Of Diets

Diet refers to the drinks and foods that you consume every day and the physical and mental circumstances connected to eating.

A diet can also be described as the process that defines how many calories should be present in the drinks and meals you eat daily. It’s, therefore, essential since it helps you understand what you are consuming, enabling you to live a long and healthy life.

Types of Diets

1. The Zone Diet

The zone diet was developed by Dr Barry Sears and has a nutritional balance of about 30% protein, 30% fats, and 40% carbohydrates in each meal. The primary focus of this type of diet is to control your levels of insulin, helping you lose weight.

The zone diet helps you to achieve the above by encouraging the consumption of foods such as healthy fats and unrefined carbohydrates.

2. Vegetarian Diet

A vegetarian diet does not include any meat. Instead, it uses foods such as eggs, dairy products, tempeh, seitan, and tofu as the source of protein.

The vegetarian diet other categories include Lacto-Ovo vegetarian diet, pesco-vegetarian diet, fruitarian vegetarian diet, and semi-vegetarian diet. The most common type of vegetarian diet is the Lacto-Ovo diet, which includes few animal-based foods.

This is one best diet, and studies have shown that people who use it have a longer life expectancy and lower body weight.

3. Atkins Diet

The Atkins diet is a low-carbohydrate diet that Dr Robert C. Atkins developed. One of its benefits is that it’s incredible for weight loss and helps you control your body’s insulin levels.

The foods you should avoid when on the Atkins diet include grains, sugar, starches, legumes, high-carbohydrate fruits & veggies, and trans fats – i.e., potatoes, beans, lentils, wheat, barley, rice, candy, soft drinks, ice cream, carrots, bananas, apples, and oranges among others.

4. Ketogenic Diet

This is a low-carb diet with many benefits, such as helping your body fight against epilepsy, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and even diabetes. It involves the intake of healthy fats such as olive oil, nuts, coconuts, avocados, and oily fish and reduced carbohydrates.

5. Vegan Diet

A vegan diet differs from a vegetarian diet in that it doesn’t involve any consumption of animal-based products such as dairy products, honey, and eggs. In most cases, a vegan diet is more of a philosophy and a way of life than a diet. This is because most persons who go for this type of diet do not just choose it for health reasons but also for ethical, compassionate, and environmental causes.   

6. Raw Food Diet

When you opt for this type of diet, you can only consume drinks and foods that are organic and not processed in any way. There are three types of raw food diets, and they include raw vegans, raw vegetarians, and raw omnivores.

Examples of foods you can eat while on raw food diet include all raw vegetables, nut milk, raw eggs, raw meat, coconut oils, dried fruits, raw nuts, and all fresh fruits.
